How many drops of eucalyptus oil do I need in my child's warm air humidifier?

January 24th, 2011

My 10 week old has a little cough and some congestion. The pediatrician is not worried, but I would like to provide some relief to my child. I would like to add some eucalyptus oil to our Vicks Warm Air humidifier. Our model has a liquid medicine chamber just for this purpose. How many drops of oil should I add per night and do I need to mix the drops with another substance like olive oil? Are there other essential oils that are beneficial to babies to encourage relaxation during sleep?

Cool Mist Air Humidifier making my room COLD?

January 16th, 2011

I recently got a Cool Mist Air Humidifier, maybe less than2 weeks ago,and my room has usually been at 65/66/67 for personal preference (I sleep really well if it is cold and my lizards don’t mind it and I don’t myself) but the Cool Mist is bringing my room down in temperature a lot. Air Purifier or humidifier ?

December 31st, 2010

i have terrible allergies and i am always sick. i was thinking about getting an air purifier or a humidifier but im not sure which would be best for me. i have a lot of major electronics in my room and im not sure if the humidifier would interfere with them. also, if i get an air purifier i would like it to be one that you clean the filter because i cant afford to keep buying replacements. does it sacrifice quality to get one with a re-usable filter??

which one would you recommend?
have any other suggestions on what else i could do??

I have 2 dogs. My dog that I had longer has always had allergies. The other day I just brought home a new dog and I noticed he sneezes too. The air in my house is really dry, what brand humidifier should I get?

October 24th, 2010

I swear I go through humidifiers like crazy! All the ones I get just seem to kind of spray a mist into the air in the area of the humidifier but the overall moisture in the room never gets better. The past 3 that Ive had (and they werent cheep!) i put right next to my bed….. it misted water into the air and soaked my nightstand and side of my bed…and even though it was less than a foot away from my head, I still find myself waking up stuffy and dry.

Sometimes I boil a pot of water on the stove and the steam seems to really help the air in my kitchen/dining room….but I obviously cant keep a pot of boiling water on the stove all night (and its not realistic for adding moisture to the bedrooms..)..

What brand humidifier can you reccomend for me? I dont have a tun of money to spend but I’m willing to pay for something that works really well.
Not looking for an air purifyer or filter..just something to add moister into the room.
I do have a honeywell air filter that I love.

is it ok to use a regular humidifier for a pet snake?

October 18th, 2010

I want to get a ball python but i want to figure everything out first. I’ve heard that you have to keep the cage at a certain humidity range, could i use a regular humidifier from wal-mart (not a pet one) and just put it in the room not in the cage, maybe keep it on low, or high which ever is needed.

And also, wat would happen to a snake if it got to humid? not like water filling the cage but just heavy air.

which house plants do a good job of keeping indoor air at a comfortable humidity level?

October 10th, 2010

i’ve had some plants before that aren’t just nice to look at, but it seemed that they made their surroundings more pleasant too. i’d prefer not to go the humidifier route, as they can be noisy and/or cause mold.

are there any house plants you could recommend to help keep indoor air clean and comfortable until the time comes when we can open the windows again? (also very important: they MUST not be toxic to pets!)

thanks, i’m breathing better already!

How do I get my humidifier to stop making a racket? Any ideas?

October 9th, 2010

I have one of those circular-shaped humidifiers – the one where you fill the water from the top, and the motor and spinning mechanism are all located in the piece you remove to fill the water.

It makes a horrid racket at night. It tends to reverberate with a very low, bassy tone, and it drives me crazy. This time of the year, I really need the moisture added to the air, but is there anything I can do to stifle the noise it generates a little bit?
